It sometimes surprises clients when they learn that Deck the Door Decor began with one designer creating each door protection plate by hand, at home. That said, there has been one continuous and unbroken thread running through the entire enterprise, starting from those humble beginnings all the way to where we are now, and that is an unwavering devotion to producing quality products that last for years.
Producing Door Kick Plate Products for Loved Ones
Before Deck the Door Decor got its start, there was just our mother, Laurie, the first and sole designer at the time, who would create custom kick plates for the people she cared about. As our family would have guests, relatives, and friends over, they would notice her door kick plate creations and many would ask where they could get one for themselves. When they learned that these were our mother’s handmade kick plates, they would ask if she could make a front door kick plate or two for them as well. And that was how interest in and demand for our custom door kick plate products began to develop and grow.
We also believe in giving back. That’s why we partnered with Habitat for Humanity. We make a donation for every product we sell because we believe in their mission!
Expanding Our Custom Door Kick Plate Business
It was around that point when things began to get financially difficult for our family. We needed to find a path to a better situation and our mother’s kick plate creations offered the way forward. A very close friend of our mom encouraged and inspired us to expand the door kick plate production. Today, we continue to produce kickplates for friends and family, except our circle of friends and loved ones has grown much, much bigger!
